Should I follow the 3-7 or 5-11 pathway?
We recommend that you use every opportunity to experience primary school settings. This can help ensure you are training within the best age range for you. Regardless of age range chosen you will be an early career teacher on completion of the programme. This means that as your career progresses you are able to teach any age range in school.
You can opt to train in the 3 to 7 age range (Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1) or the 5 to 11 age range (Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2). This is about your personal preference and we can accommodate your choice. Our partnership schools want to train in all areas of school and need to appoint early career teachers to teach children from Nursery to Year 6!
We tailor our programme to the pathway you choose. We have training that you only attend if you're on the 3-7 pathway and other sessions for those on the 5-11. The majority of the training sessions, however, cover both routes.
Some providers offer an option to qualify as an Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS). We don’t offer this as its not favoured by our partner schools. We’d encourage you to train as a primary school teacher so you have more career options in the future.
Take the opportunity to see why these trainee teachers chose the 3-7 route.
